VETERANS AT LONE OAK CEMETERY

Watch the salute to WWII Veteran being laid to rest after his remains were returned home to Leesburg, FL.

After being shot down by German Air Forces in 1944, Staff Sergeant Franklin P. Hall has finally returned home to Leesburg, Florida and been laid to rest at Lone Oaks Cemetery. Thanks to all the Patriot Guard, Veterans, Police, Fire and EMS for their support on this very special service. Special Thanks goes out to Beyers Funeral Home for facilitating this service at Lone Oak Cemetery.

There are several hundred Veterans buried in Lone Oak Cemetery, from the War with Mexico days until the most recent conflict. Speak with our staff to make arrangements to be buried or entombed in our Mausoleum or Colbarium.

The Funeral Home Director will arrange for official military burials.

LEESBURG HISTORY BURIED AT LONE OAK CEMETERY

Leesburg's first Police Chief Hux

Chief of Police James Hux was shot and killed while trying to locate a moonshine still in a swamp.

He was killed by a single shotgun blast to the back of his head. Chief Hux was the first law enforcement officer to give his life “In the Line of Duty” in Lake County, Florida.  

The 18-year-old suspect was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was granted a conditional pardon on March 15, 1930, and a full pardon in 1939.

Chief Hux had served with the Leesburg Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, and two sons.

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,700 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

Join us by sponsoring a veterans’ wreath at a cemetery near you, volunteering or donating to a local sponsorship group.

Who We Remember

From the Revolutionary War to present-day conflicts, our veterans are devoted sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers. They come from all backgrounds in life to place those lives on the line for our freedoms. There are millions of individual stories to tell.
